---------------- KYLE'S QUEST FAQ ---------------- Q: I just received my receipt for registering, but not the registered version of the game. What should I do? Will I be e-mailed this and how long will it take. A: An automatic script processes the order immediately and emails out registration instructions to the customer. The same script emails us a copy, so we know that the script is working every time, but occasionally people don't receive the registration email. Sometimes this means that the email winds up in your "junk mail" folder, and other times it is rejected by your ISP's server. If you have not received any registration instructions from us with in more than 24 hrs, please contact us at sales@crimsonfire.com. Q: Is there a limit as to how many levels you can load at one time? A: It is advised that only 8 levels be loaded at one time. Anymore can cause the game to crash. Q: I can't get it to install on the storage card, only the main memory. A: Unfortunately KQ cannot run on storage cards, this is because KQ was made before before such hardware were available. Please install any levels you wish to plain in the main memory. Q: I have a WinCE device and I have paid for KQ, but I do not know how to activate it. A: click on the Register button inside KQ, then on the main Menu button in WinCE for the next dialog to appear – there lies the registration window or the about box.  Q: I have installed KQ, however I still haven't figured out how to save. A: If you haven’t registered KQ the save feature is disabled.  If you have a purchased a registerd version of KQ, tap the silkscreen "menu" button (right underneath the Applications/Home button on the Graffitti pad on PalmOS). Then, along the top, there should be some choices, one of which should be "Save/Restore". Tap that and you should see a save option. Q: I upgraded to an IPAQ and would like to continue using KQ. When I tried to install the CE version, it said that my device was not supported. A: Unfortunately KQ cannot run on IPAQ’s (and on some other WinCE devices), because KQ was developed long before such devices were available. Q: Everytime I load up KQ I always get an error message (or a black screen) A: Make sure you only have 1 – 8 levels installed - If you are a Macintosh user please use MACZIP to unzip files. - Try DeskFree Recycle ( http://www.deskfree.com ) to defragment your memory, and disable any hacks. Also try doing a soft reset before you play the game, and see if that helps. ----------------------------- KYLE'S QUEST LEVEL EDITOR FAQ ----------------------------- Q: When I try to load my KQ level, it crashes. A: If you made your own level please be sure that you have checked the following: - filename is under 20 characters. - all graphics are in .bmp (bitmap) format - all bmp files are monochrome (2 colors: black and white) - sizes of graphics are: 16x16 for tiles, 32x32 for events, and monsters 50x45. - make sure you named both .kql and pdb. The same name (eg. Kq.kql and kq.pdb) - make sure you don’t have more than 99 walkable tiles - make sure you don’t have more than 155 non-walkable tiles If KQ still does not work delete all KQ files. Then re-install again. DON'T install the levels you had, download them again. Install them one at a time on your PDA, and each time you load one test it to see if it crashes or not. If it crashes after loading a level, it was probably corrupted on the download and you need to reinstall it. Q: How can I create KQ images and export them to my pc so I can use them as tiles? A: Crimson Fire does not provide any image editing programs, however Microsoft paint can work just fine. Other software such as Adobe’s Photoshop and Jasc’s PaintShop Pro are excellent pieces of software that also offer trial versions. When making KQ graphics everything must be in monochrome (black and white) and in .bmp format. Tiles are 16x16, events are 32x32 and monsters/endgames are 50x45. Q: If I try to save something and reopen it is all white. A: This happens if you move the level from one drive to another. The level editor stores the filenames of the graphics in the .kql file, but not the graphics themselves. If the location of the graphics files changes after you include them in the level, then the next time you open it, they will be plain white, not even the grid of an "empty" level. You just need to re-associate the tile filenames with the new location. Open the tile selection dialog, browse to the new location, and it will come back.
