The Magma Engine is Crimson Fire's advanced handheld game engine that will be used in a variety of high-end products, starting with Phantom Strike. It sits above basic rendering APIs such as OpenGL-ES or X-Forge, and is optimized for today's current crop of 3d gaming devices such as the Tapwave Zodiac and Nokia N-Gage.
The current full X-Forge engine is designed for a limited set of genres, such as driving games, and the graphics tend to look pretty flat without costly lighting calculations. The Magma Engine is intended to be used for more traditional types of console games where moving characters and detailed graphics are required, such as FPS, RPGs, etc
Features:
- adaptive level of detail
- advanced particle engine
- fully featured terrain engine
- skeletal based character animation
- advanced lighting with lightmaps
- support for multiple rendering passes

Screen Shots:
If you didn't know any better, you would swear that these screenshots are from a high end PC simulation or that they must be pre-rendered. Is the underlying X-Forge engine really capable of producing such nice graphics at real-time speeds? Well, how many polygons do you think the scenes above have? The Magma engine uses an optimized terrain engine to provide a dynamic level of detail for maximum speed, while advanced lighting techniques and highly detailed textures take care of the rest. But don't take our word for it, prepare for an interactive Magma demo coming soon!
